Jeremy, founder of Jerebrew bar in Zhongshan, China
1) Where are you from, and why did you move to China?
I’m from Nantes! After my master’s degree I went to New Zealand to learn English with a working holiday visa. I wanted to learn English to get more opportunities in France. But I met my wife there.

2) Why did you choose Zhongshan? How is life there?
My wife is from Zhongshan, after our trip in New Zealand I followed her to Zhongshan. My life here is very basic and similar to a life in France. Zhongshan and the Guangdong province are very well developed.

3) Why open a bar?
I first opened some training centers in Zhongshan, but in 2021 the central government changed the education policy and closed all of the training centers…
Moreover, it was during the covid time and I had to learn new things to change my mind.
As I came from a vineyard family who also brew beer, I began to brew. Little bit little I open a brewery and a bar that I mostly use as a showroom.

4) Do you miss France?
I don’t really miss France.
But I’m very happy to go back there for holidays.

5) How do you see the future? Will you stay in Zhongshan for a long time?
The future is in the shadow today. It is very hard to predict the future. There’re lots of local, national and international problems. But if things go well, I will probably stay in China for another 10 to 15 years, I guess. After that let’s see… But I don’t think I will live in China for my old age.
