FAQ: Why does CFI communicate mostly in English?

Many people have asked us why CFI communicates mostly in English.

The answer is very simple: we are international. We are not only Club France; we are Club France INTERNATIONAL.

Our objective is not to gather “Franco-French” people, our objective is to share the French culture and make it accessible to everyone.
We also create French-only content and communicate in French, and our friends could be the 100% French-speaking societies, but we mostly partner with organisations which have similar global mindsets: CCI (French chamber of commerce), French Tech, Internations, and more.
What does it mean in practice?
It means that people who are not French or French-speaking are welcome to meet us, because they want to learn French, they want to do business with French people, or simply they have interest in the French culture (especially the wine and the food!).
It also means that our members are open-minded and international: they do not stick only within the French community, they do not go abroad and wish to live exactly as if they were in France. They know they are foreigners; they embrace local cultures and want to create bridges. That’s why we like to organise events for French people to meet local people everywhere in the world, visit villages, traditional venues, learn the local language, and more.

CFI members form a diaspora of French people but also their friends.
Of course, we do not want to speak English all the time, we want people who learn French to be able to practise their French, and we want French people to practise the local language.
What we want, is the right balance between the “French touch” and the international mindset.
