Kick off the new year with a warm and convivial gathering: enjoy networking with fellow CFI members and friends while sharing a delicious slice of Galette des Rois (King’s Cake).
This beloved French tradition, celebrated every January, marks Epiphany on January 6th—the Christian feast commemorating the visit of the Three Wise Men to the baby Jesus. Its roots trace back to ancient Roman Saturnalia festivals, where a hidden bean designated a “king for a day.”
Adapted in medieval France (around the 13th-14th century), the galette became a puff pastry filled with rich frangipane (almond cream), concealing a small trinket called a fève. Whoever finds the fève in their slice is crowned king or queen for the day, often choosing a royal partner amid cheers of joy!
Today, this charming custom is cherished not only in France—where over 30 million galettes are enjoyed annually—but also among French communities worldwide, fostering friendship and fun throughout the month.
