Its roots trace back to ancient Roman Saturnalia festivals\, where a hidden bean designated a “king for a day.”\nAdapted in medieval France (around the 13th-14th century)\, the galette became a puff pastry filled with rich frangipane (almond cream)\, concealing a small trinket called a fève.
